Kyle Kraiter

Some things cross the boundaries of the senses. People talk abut sounds you can see & colors you can smell. That is what glass is like for Kyle Kraiter. Long before he started working with hand blown glass, he could see a piece & almost feel it & taste it. This early attraction to the material led Kyle on a journey he could have never predicted. The next several years were spent traveling to & studying at schools, universities & studios in New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, to Bandon, OR & off to Singapore, around S.E. Asia & then to Australia & finally returning home to Portland, OR.
Kyle’s attraction to glass work was tied to an underlying passion for adventure & beauty; this passion was fueled by both his exploration of glass & by other irreplaceable experiences with the people & places he encountered during his travels. The ocean & the human form are two of the most visually apparent influences in Kyle’ work. Smooth, simple line & form true to the nature of the material are what one will find expressed in both the shapes & color of Kyle’s work. Each piece of he makes is made with a world of knowledge & unique culmination of experiences from artists he has worked with, people he has met & places he has lived.
