Judy Perlman

I began making jewelry in 1958 by participating in an apprenticeship program offered by Berkley High School. S. Paul Gee was my master teacher during that period.

Other influences on my art have been studies in anthropology and fine art, which I majored in while attending the University of New Mexico. Through this combination I developed a lifelong fascination with folk art from all over the world.

Big, ceremonial pieces of jewelry intrigue me, and I like to bring humor and whimsy to my larger pieces. Although I use conventional materials, finis and function are important, but ideas and form are most important of all.

Currently, I’m back in New Mexico after a nearly 30 year absence, and am truly reveling in the nurturing atmosphere that artists enjoy here.
