Don MacLane
I hold BA & MFA degrees in Sculpture from Antioch College, in Ohio & the University of Oregon. A series of jobs have helped me acquire and refine the technical skills used to produce sculpture. An apprenticeship with a cabinetmaker taught me how to build custom hardwood furniture. I practiced blacksmithing and reconstructed old timber frame barns. For years my day job was as a steel fabricator working on structural steel, cranes, machinery & pressure vessels. Those jobs were juggled with formal study leading to a degree in mechanical engineering. That training helps me understand the behavior of my kinetic sculpture & my experimental musical instruments. Completing that study, my day job shifted to design & development of color printers. An early retirement offer now allows me to work full time on sculpture.
