Ann Ruttan

I am currently working on light, hue and values as it relates to landscape and abstract work. In the plein aire work, I began to relate to everything as an assemblage of shape and color. This has prompted my interest in simplifying compositions, looking for strong values with an emphasis on light qualities at particular times of day, and doing tonalistic studies in my field painting that I hope to apply to my studio work. The emotional impact of a landscape is something I hope to achieve with increasingly abstract and less definitive work.
